— Anglo-Saxon Hall / Oxfordshire / 2019
The Sylva Foundation is an environmental charity based in Long Wittenham and the site of a large seventh-century building that was excavated 2016. Having received a grant from the Heritage Lottery Fund, the organisation is now in the process of building an authentic Anglo-Saxon Hall where its archaeological remains were first discovered.
The Sylva Foundation and the Carpenters Fellowship have organised a series of Anglo-Saxon timber building workshops to re-create a fully authentic building. These workshops offer an opportunity to understand the process of converting a log from its natural form into useful timber frame components using primarily an axe.
